Tarot for All Ages is a full 78 card tarot deck with friendly, storybook style illustrations, made for beginners of every age to learn together.

Tarot is a set of cards that tell the story of life’s ups and downs, and this deck opens the whole thing up to beginners of every age, including children, so it’s just as much at home with a curious 11 year old as it is with an adult who’s always wanted to give tarot a try, and it’s lovely for sharing readings and making up stories together.

Elizabeth Haidle wrote and illustrated the deck, and she’s reimagined many of the traditional characters with images from around the world and across history, so the High Priestess becomes the Dreamer, walking under a moonlit sky, and the Emperor becomes a stern ancient Pharaoh. The World card in the photos shows a figure sitting cross legged inside a golden loop of two snakes, holding up a glowing sun, with the four tarot suits tucked into each corner.

Like every full tarot deck, it’s made up of 22 Major Arcana cards, which cover the big themes in life, and 56 Minor Arcana cards, which look at everyday moments, split into the four suits of wands, swords, cups and pentacles. The illustrated booklet explains each card simply and shows you how to lay out your own readings, so you can start with a single card and take things slowly, and build up from there.

The box cover shows a small traveller in a red pointed hat striding across a mountain top with a bundle over one shoulder and a white dog leaping alongside, which feels like just the right picture for the start of a tarot adventure.

Pull a card at the breakfast table and talk about what it might mean for the day ahead, or lay out a small spread on a rainy afternoon and take turns telling the story the cards seem to be showing, and before long, you’ll know the whole deck by heart.
