Description
This blue Agate incense holder is very different, and that’s exactly why it came home with me.
Incense holders turn up in various crystal forms all the time, but I’d never seen one quite like this Agate one. The whole slice ripples with rings, layer after layer of blues folding around each other from the darkest teal at the edges down to a pale, misty centre, and right in the middle of it all sits the little hole for your incense stick, so the smoke rises from the heart of the pattern. The outer edge is left completely natural too, rough and rocky exactly as the Agate formed, which makes the polished face inside look even more like something secret that’s been opened up just for you. And the blue itself earns its keep the way blue always does, because it’s one of the most naturally calming colours there is to look at, which is rather the perfect coat for a stone whose whole job is settling a space.
This piece has been dyed, as almost all vividly coloured Agate pieces are, but the patterns, rings and banding are completely real, that’s the Agate’s own pattern, built layer by layer over more time than any of us can imagine, and the dye simply turns the volume up on what was already there.
There’s something rather wonderful about giving incense a stone this old to stand in, because people have been burning incense for thousands of years, in temples, in homes, in quiet corners of every civilisation you can name, and this little slice was already millions of years old before any of that began. Light a stick in it and you’re doing one of the oldest calming rituals there is, held by something even older. Paired with the right incense, this piece becomes the ultimate stone for your five minutes of peace, with the smoke curling up from the middle of all those rings like it’s rising out of the pattern itself.
Agate brings its own steadiness to the ritual too. This is the stone for grounding and balance, loved for calming worry, settling frazzled nerves and bringing a bit of harmony back to a space, which is precisely the energy you want underneath your incense. The slice sits flat and completely steady, the hole grips a standard incense stick securely, and at approx 9 x 7 x 2cm it’s substantial enough to catch falling ash while small enough to live happily on a shelf, or wherever your quiet moments happen.
As this piece is dyed, please keep it out of direct sunlight, as Agate, especially dyed pieces fades when it’s in the sun for long periods. Wipe it clean with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth rather than washing it, and let any warmth from the incense be the only heat it meets. Treated kindly, it’ll hold its blues for a very long time.
This is the only one, so the slice photographed, every ring of it, is the exact one that will arrive at your door.
